Island Oyster
Unique open-air oyster bar on the tip of Governor’s Island, looking straight across the channel at Lower Manhattan. Take the ferry ($3, 8 minutes) from Battery Maritime Building. Last ferry off the island is at 6 pm on weekdays and 10 pm Fri & Sat.

Surprisingly limited oyster selection, but who cares–this is one of the great oyster bar views in the world. You’re literally perched on the edge of Governors Island, nothing between you and Lower Manhattan except 800 yards of choppy water and a steady stream of ferries and helicopters. There’s reggae, beer, and nowhere to be (except back to Manhattan by the last ferry, otherwise it’s $1,100 to evacuate you).
