Summerside

Malpeque Bay, PEI   🌎 See Oyster Map

Summersides are harvested from the same famed PEI waters as Malpeques, using the same hand-tonging techniques, but they are culled mercilessly so you are guaranteed a decent size and shape to go with that classic Malpeque brine.

    Salt bomb, meaty

Super brine. Wish I’d have saved them for last on my tray rather than opening with them…! Indeed, similar to a malpaque. They satisfied my brine craving! Will order again.

Had at Neptune Oyster, Boston on Sun, Oct. 8. Very clean, with massive brine and low-moderate salinity. Less meaty, nice and light, one of the better PEI oysters I’ve had.

  4. Rating 4

Impressive Northumberlandy white-brown shells, thick and heavy for their size. Super easy to shuck. Perfect paisley shape. This is what every Malpeque should be. Very salty. Not much sweetness at the finish (I’ve had sweeter ones in the past), but a very satisfying, occasionally funky vegemite savor.
